I updated the look and feel of the website to a bamboo theme.
Spring semester has started and I'm unnaturally excited about it. This is my last semester as an undergraduate!!! This semester I'm taking EEL3211 (Power and Power Lab) and FIN3403 (Business Finance); I will also be a TA for Junior Design and an RA for CHREC
The fall semester is over! I successfully completed my undergraduate honors thesis, senior design project, and some RC research.
This page contains some of my hobbies as well as random stuff I'm just interested in.
Surfing - Traveling - Reading - Technology
Surfing is my sport of choice. Growing up in Florida allowed me to enjoy the ocean on a daily basis. I mostly ride long boards but if the right conditions present themselves I'll ride a shorty in a heart beat.
My local break where I grew up was Satellite Beach, FL. Now that I'm in school I tend to ride the St. Augustine breaks more than anything else.
Here are some of the surf oriented web sites I check out daily:
Check out the interactive map below for information on some of the surf trips I have gone on.
Here is a video of myself and some friends surfing Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
I love to travel! Almost as much as surfing. Good thing for me that surfing and traveling can co-exist. On the map below you will find all of the destination I have visited. Click on the markers for more information and pictures.
Aqua - Pure Surfing Trip | Blue - Some Surfing Was Done | Red - No Surfing Was Done
Most of my family is from Illinois, thus I have visited several times. Chicago is one of my favorite big cities. It has a lot of culture and history that is very evident throughout the city.
Washington DC 01/2004
I spent a week in Washington D.C. for the high school program, Close Up. The purpose of the program is to educate the general public, particularly high school students, about the US government.
Somewhere in Canada! 08/2003
I went camping and fishing somewhere in the middle of no where in Canada with my family. It was the last trip I went on with my grandpa before he passed away. I had a good time.
Las Vegas, Nevada 05/2004
During my first visit to Vegas I spent about 4 hours there. It was one of the many stops I made on the way out to the west coast. I was under the age of 21 at the time so I just enjoyed the atmosphere and the food while I was there. My second trip took place in May of 2007, when I was of age, with my girlfriend.
Las Vegas, Nevada 05/2007
During my second vist to Vegas I was of age so I decided to spend a little more time there. Tricia and I didn't do much gambling but we still had a blast.
New York, NY 03/2005
I visited New York City during my 2005 spring break. Unfortunately I got very sick on the trip and spent most of the time in the hostel. But it was still a good experience.
Costa Rica 05/2005 (most recent trip)
By far my favorite place in the world to be...
I have visited this wonderful Central American country many times; for surfing trips and normal vacation. My mind and heart may lie in the states but my soul definitely belongs to Costa Rica. Some of the best waves I have ever surfed have occurred in this country. Some of the best food I have ever ate was in Costa.
Belize
I have visited Belize a couple of times while on various cruises. There are some decent scuba diving reefs right off the coast. It's worth the visit if you like water.
Cozumel is very similar to Cancun except it's an island. A lot of decent snorkeling and some shopping can be done here. But it is very tourist oriented and thus the culture seems a little fake.
Greenville, SC
I spent four months (spring 2006 semester) interning for GE Energy (General Electric Energy). I worked on the controls fulfillment team who develops and implements the control systems for heavy duty gas turbines. I learned a lot and made a bunch of friends inside and outside of work.
Savannah, GA 03/18/2006
Where else would celebrate St. Patrick's Day other then Savannah. Supposedly it is one of the largest St. Patties day celebrations in the world. This was also one of the first big trips all of the GE co-ops took together during the spring 2006 term.
Atlanta, GA 03/2006
The techno artist BT (who sings Dreaming) was playing in Atlanta. We used this as an excuse to make the two hour drive from Greenville, SC to visit the city.
Outer Banks, NC 04/2006
I took some of my GE friends out to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to meet up with some of my college friends and to surf. We had an extended weekend full of fun and many memories. The best part of the trip was the 4 level house right on the beach with a hot tub on the porch. A very good trip. Not my first time to the Outer Banks and it wont be my last time. Check out the.
Charleston, SC 05/2006
As the spring 2006 semester was coming to an end all of the GE spring interns wanted to make one last trip together before we all parted ways. We spent the weekend exploring the historic city, eating some great food, and doing some crazy gymnastics in the hotel pool.
Cancun, Mexico 07/2006
My girlfriend Tricia any I visited Cancun, Mexico during our 2006 summer break. We spent 7 days in the very hot tropical beach resort town and had a very good time. We stayed at the recently renovated JW Marriott. It was one of the first resorts to recover from the damage left by Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
Japan 08/2006My best friend Ben and I went backpacking in Japan for 10 days. We visited Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Chelse Point. Japan is very modern and reminded me a lot of American and French culture. The thing that impressed me the most about the country was the efficient public transportation system. Check out the photos.
Paris, FR 05/2007
I surprised my girlfriend with a trip to Paris for her graduation gift. I also asked her to marry me while we were in Paris. Be sure to check out our website for more information about the wedding.
When I have the time I also enjoy reading. I prefer non-fiction but will pick up a literary work based on imagination every now and again.
My favorite books in no particular order are:
This book merges theoretical physics, surfing, drug running, and soul searching into one story. This is the only book I have ever read that caused me to laugh out loud. This book is in line with the way I think; I have a technical engineering / science background but I still love to let loose and get lost in the moment, usually while surfing. |
In Search of Captain Zero is an account of one travelers journeys through Central America in search of his lost friend. My love for Costa Rica might have started with this book. Most of the story takes place in Costa. |
One of the most popular books of recent. Enough said! |
This book serves as an excellent introduction to String Theory. Some people believe Michio Kaku, the author, might be the Einstein of generation Y. |
Rich Dad, Poor Dad puts money and finances in perspective. This is a good motivational read. |
I grew up on the computer! I love technology. Without it I would not operate.
When I refer to technology I mean computer and electronics technology. Because it is always rapidly changing I find it harder and harder to keep up with the newest gadget or breakthrough. If you are interested in what news articles related to technology I have read recently check out my Digg feed below.
